This pen presses a ceramic plate, warmed to about 50°C, onto the bite for a few seconds. It stings for one second. Then the itch fades, the drama never starts, and I get on with my evening. My honest answer: buy the Beurer to keep at home or in a bag, and buy the Heat It to keep with you at all times. I keep the Beurer by the pool and the Heat It on my keyring, and between them I am never caught out.

Why this site exists

I love travel. I hate mosquitoes. Every bite I get blisters into a pus-filled sack. Creams, oral antihistamines, DEET-based prevention: none of it changes the reaction once I’m bitten.

I switched to heat treatment, and haven’t looked back. If I treat a bite within ten minutes or so it almost never progresses past a tiny bump. Even if I zap it later, it’s sooooo much better than normal. The Beurer BR 60 is my current favourite bite reliever. In fact, I love the thing so much I built this site around it. My aim is to keep testing and sharing great new mosquito-related products too.

This is my experience. It works for me, but everyone’s skin is different and yours may respond differently. That said, I leave the device out and all my friends use it and love it too. So there’s a good chance it’ll be a firm favourite for you as well.

Do heat pens actually work on mosquito bites?

For me, unambiguously: my bites went from week-long blisters to small bumps that fade in minutes (I’ve written about why bites blister separately). Pilot studies on concentrated heat also report itch relief within minutes for many users. Your skin may respond differently, which is why I link the research and 38,000+ reviews so you can judge for yourself.

Does the Beurer BR 60 hurt?

One genuinely hot second, and level 2 is spicier than level 1. I would take one hot second over a week of scratching every single time, but I won't pretend it tickles.

Is it safe for children?

Beurer rates it from age 3, operated by an adult, and states it's also suitable during pregnancy and for diabetics. Read the manual first, and warn kids about the heat before round one.

Does it work on old bites I've already scratched?

It works best on fresh bites, ideally within minutes. A two-day-old bite you've been scratching is a harder target, and broken skin shouldn't be treated at all.

Is the BR 60 the same as the BiteX Original?

Yes. Beurer renamed its bite pens the BiteX family in 2026, and the Original is the BR 60. Same device, new label. There are new siblings too, compared here.

Why should I trust this site?

Because it exists for one honest reason: this pen worked so well on my own terrible reactions that I built a site around it. No brand asked me to. When new products worth testing turn up, I’ll test those too, and tell you plainly what does and doesn’t work.

Will it stop me getting bitten?

No. It treats bites after they happen and does nothing to repel mosquitoes, so pair it with whatever prevention you trust. This pen is for the bites that get through, which in my experience is always some of them.
